The Brief

To produce a brand that will help a young Canadian Professional Jewellery & Fashion Photographer succeed in her career by making it unique, personal & representational.

Melissa Langley is a young professional Jewellery & Fashion Photography from Canada that was living in the north of England at the time we first made contact. She only had a few months left before she moved back and she required an identity ready for when she re-adjusted back in Canada. She asked 2Corners to produce an Identity, Business cards and her CV to help her establish herself.

Melissa had the branding idea in her head but required us to produce it. The idea behind the final logo is the lettering & logotype is surrounded by a gold ring that is a representation of a camera lens and the gold is to represent her preferred subject (fashion). The M&L logotype is her initials which are an anagram to represent a constant flow of hard work and determination.

The Design Process

  • Step 1.

    Contact with the Client

We first made contact with Melissa when she was recommended to us by a fellow freelance designer who's schedule was full at the time. Due to Melissa located in Blackpool, we couldn't establish a physical meeting to discuss her project, instead, a telephone call was the first option to gather information and her brief.

  • Step 2.

    Receiving the Brief

While speaking to Melissa on the phone, we managed to connect with her in a personal and professional manner. She explained very clearly what she was looking for in terms of branding, style and colour schemes. The main element she wanted us to use was circle to represent a camera lens and a monogram of M,L & P.

    Step 2.

    Receiving the Brief
  • Step 3.

    Research and Idea Generation

We asked if she could email over examples of logos she would like her branding to be like, with this information we started researching fashion photographer to establish ideas that could potentially help her stand out.

  • Step 4.

    Client Review

When the first draft of ideas were finalised to be sent over for review, Melissa's heart went to the idea which included a M & L monogram enclosed in a gold textured circle. Because she asked for a monogram of M, L & P together, the shape of the 'P' didn't work as we hoped so the final monogram only consistede of a M & L.

    Step 4.

    Client Review
  • Step 5.

    Revised Ideas

Melissa's feedback also consisted of adding "Melissa Langley Photography" to the logo as she felt it was empty. Originally the monogram was centred within the gold circle so we added the title that's justified to the left and in three lines then placed just above the foot of the "L". We then centred the title and the monogram icon so it sat nicely within the circle.

  • Step 6.

    Business Cards & CV

After receiving an approval on the logo, we then set out to design the gold foil business cards that would be printed on a black card. Originally Melissa asked if they could be portrait but due to her email address being too long, the only to make it fit was to change the orientation to landscape. We also designed her CV to help her stand out from the typical Microsoft Word format.

    Step 6.

    Business Cards & CV
